CORAL (Communities Organizing Resources to Advance Learning) was launched in 1999 as a statewide initiative of The James Irvine Foundation in five California cities, and developed in Pasadena by the Office for Creative Connections (see separate listing). The mission of CORAL is to improve the academic achievement of students through their participation in out-of-school programs that focus on literacy and enrichment curricula, and involve families, schools and community partners. In addition to providing programs for elementary school-age children, CORAL operates a Youth Institute for high-school students at the CORAL Innovation Center in Northeast Pasadena.
