EFM (EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY)

EFM is a four-year group seminar that studies Hebrew/Christian Scriptures and church history. As lay persons we face the difficult and often subtle task of interpreting the richness of the church’s faith in a complex and confusing world. We need a theological education which supports our faith and also teaches us to express that faith in day-to-day events. Through discussion and guided reflection, the seminar provides the opportunity for deeper understanding of how our lives and actions are part of our rich theological heritage. Group members are part of a small group in which the events of each person’s life may be examined in the light of the materials being studied. By examining our own beliefs and their relationship to our culture and the tradition of our Christian faith, we can learn what it means to be effective ministers in the world. The program is produced by the University of the South, an Episcopal University. The class meets weekly on a weeknight from September through May. Tuition is approximately $340 per year.
