The All Saints Jazz Vespers program brings together amazing musicianship and holy inspiration six times a year for a service of prayer, meditation and music. Over the years our sanctuary has been blessed by Billy Childs, Alan Broadbent and Shelly Berg, Alan Pasqua, Bill Cunliffe and Holly Hofmann, Julie Kelly and too many first-class musicians to list.

So many of them tell us that they love playing in the context of a vespers service with prayers and short meditations and the sense that this is a holy enterprise, not just a jazz concert in the church. For more on jazz as holy work, read Christina Honchell’s reflection God leaps in.

Jazz Vespers are held in the church on Sunday evenings at 5:00 pm. We gather in the intimacy of the Chancel for an extraordinary experience of jazz in-the-round. If you need assistance to get up into the Chancel, please arrive at least five minutes early; wheel chair lift is available. No charge (free will offering taken) and no reservations required. Childcare provided.  Join us for an extraordinary celebration of joy, energy and liberation. For more information, call 626.583.2725 (Monday—Friday) or jazz@allsaints-pas.org

The Next Jazz Vespers is on Sunday, May 27, featuring John Proulx.

5:00 p.m. (Chancel) The jazz scene is abuzz about singer/pianist/composer John Proulx. His piano playing is hot and swinging, and his voice recalls the smooth, mellow sounds of a young Chet Baker. John’s newest effort features Michael Feinstein as a guest star, and is being co-produced by John and All Saints’ Composer-in-Residence Bill Cunliffe, who also guests on the CD. It’s John’s first collection of originals. Bill says, “I’m really pleased to be working with John on this project. Not only is he an outstanding pianist and singer, but his compositions really show his gifts as a musician.” John will be joined by Zac Matthews on bass and Dave Tull on drums. For more information, visit www.johnproulx.com. Child care is provided. If you would like to use the elevator for accessibility, please arrive five minutes early. For more information, contact Melissa Hayes, 626.583.2725 or mhayes@allsaints-pas.org.
