"Santa Claus is an Episcopalian"with Nat Read
Almost everything we think we know about Santa Claus is wrong, but the real story is much more interesting! Santa, as it turns out, was not a pagan, winter solstice, Nordic, folkloric figure who attached himself as an uninvited parasite to the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Santa and the celebration of Christ’s birth were intertwined from the beginning. Without Santa Claus, the birth of Jesus would not be the major Christian holiday in America and Christmas would not be a secular and legal holiday. It would be just another work day in the USA. This was all the doings of the Episcopalians who invented Santa Claus and the American Christmas. Come hear the fascinating story!

From the 5:00 p.m. service:
Canterbury Choir with harp offer A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten. Sally Howard offers a meditation; Ed Bacon presides. This special evensong service is a wonderful way to close the Advent season and prepare for the glory of Christmas.
